A History of Excellence: Dandyism as a Means of Visibility

A History of Excellence: Dandyism as a Means of Visibility studies the history of queer signaling in women’s fashion, and how dandyism is used as a means of visibility. My research spans historical and contemporary depictions in documentary and fictional media and is explored through wearable and two-dimensional regenerative textile art. Each piece is made from 100% recycled or discarded material, and all original items and textiles are fully fashioned, further eliminating material waste in the making process. I am intentional with the use of gendered silhouettes, patterns, symbolism, and color, approaching dandyism from a standpoint that is futuristic and nuanced historically.
