childish

Childish dives into the childhood curiosity found in adolescence while depicting a child’s imagination as a coping mechanism that translates into adulthood. This three-foot-by-two-foot immersive photography book takes an introspective look at the author’s childhood experiences and use of world-building to cope and adapt to her environment. The context illustrates how a child’s creativity and naivety can be their most powerful tool in emotional development. The large size of the book aims to shrink the viewer in proportion to the book, so the audience can feel like they are a child reading a book too large for their arm span. This book seeks to bring back the youthful thinking found in our adolescence to create worlds of our own. Each page is paired with excerpts from the author’s past and self-portraits from the present to create a visual representation of childlike imagination.
