Heirloom
In both concept and construction, Heirloom is deeply inspired by traditional feminine textile practices exploring the intersections of heritage, sustainability, and identity. My goal is to honor the history of women’s textile work — knitting, sewing, embroidery, and natural dye. In this project I balance nostalgia and whimsy with functionality. Traditional textile work is inherently rooted in sustainability, slow making, and mending. I utilize these methods paired with environmentally conscious materials to create my own sustainable collection of one of one designs. My intention for my output is to share a personal perspective of what can be done using knowledge and material that has been passed down from those before us.
Lily Anne Gilbert is a textile artist from Pennsylvania exploring the intersection of traditional feminine craft practices, material storytelling, and circular design. Inspired by slow making, she challenges the fast fashion model and draws from the rich history of textile work by utilizing mending, reuse, and care.
