143 (I Love You)

143 translates to I (1 letter) love (4 letters) you (3 letters) in pager code. It is also the building I have lived in for the past four years. 143 is a ceremonious, hand-crafted collection composed of nine tea cups and a pot, a silk protective cloth, a box, and a tea selection – intended to be interacted with by those being honored. This process and project has been an act of love: a dedication and commitment to those I grew up with.

Ceramics is a practice I adopted in my last semester of college. Learning this medium has taught me about the slow process of production, which involves patience, neither rushing nor waiting, guiding me to a disciplined pace of making. I often feel exposed like the raw material, which evokes a color palette not typical to my design work.

Crafting these cups has been an intuitive and joyful process, with much consideration for who they’re being made for: Anna-Lucia Parra Jordan, Amanda Lugo, Ian Partman, Jordyn Edwards, Lexi Brown, Max Giusecke, Paola Trinh, Skye Irvin. As children we play “tea party”, and as adults we pour into each other's cups— it means so much.
